Intercettiamo il tour dei Thank You, in viaggio verso il Primavera e le date europee in apertura ai Battles. Domiciliati in quella stessa Baltimora che è casa di altre schegge impazzite dell’avant statunitense (uno su tutti, Dan Deacon) i tre Thank You non si perdono in convenevoli e si affrettano ad incendiare il nostro lunedì sera: tutti suonano tutto, ingaggiando una mischia tanto giocosa quanto spietata con tutti gli strumenti a disposizione e riversando nel live la potenza del loro drumming tribale e le staffilate di synh e chitarre. I riferimenti spaziano dai classici affilati di Fugazi e The Ex, ai cori ancestrali di Big A Little a e Animal Collective, alle cavalcate più craute a volte fin africaneggianti, il tutto immerso nel puro divertimento generato dal suonare (to)talmente lanciati.

Instrumental jet set è un’opera rock come quelle di quarant’anni fa, ma senza la pomposità, anzi con molta ironia a partire dai titoli. Una botta di senso con nessun timore reverenziale verso ciò che succede in giro, e un’ulteriore evoluzione dai temi matematici e spaziali delle prime avventure del Capitano, giusto in tempo per salutare il Beefheart che non c’è più: se il 2010 si era caratterizzato per il ritorno al beat italiano, l’Undici minaccia di saccheggiare il patrimonio del prog italiano.
